From the Desk of Mrs. Wood

TMSA Families-

Thank you parents for the wonderful Teacher Luncheon, you provided before Spring Break!  Salads, soup, baked potatoes, desserts, all were so Yummy!  But I think the best part was that parent volunteers covered the teachers’ classes while the teachers had a ‘duty free’ lunch.  Thank you!

Principal's Corner

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a restful Spring Break.

On Friday, April 25, we had a ceremony to recognize one of our sixth graders, Tanay B. for his excellent essay on My Favorite Teacher. Community Relations Manager, Linda Maloof from Barnes and Noble came to our school to present the My Favorite Teacher Awards to Tanay and Mr. Yigit. Tanay also had a chance to read his essay during the ceremony.

Poem in your Pocket

In honour of National Poetry Month the Language Arts department has asked students to carry a poem in their pocket (or lanyard...or shoe) at all times. Any teacher, at any time, can stop a student and ask them to read their poem. Once a student has read a poem they must find a new one for the next time they are stopped. Many students have written their own poetry while others have found favourites in books or on the internet. We would like to encourage parents to get in on the fun and ask to see their students' poetic choices. What a great way to raise awareness and appreciation for this important literary form!

Third Grade Visits the Planetarium

The third graders went on a field trip to visit the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill, NC on April 9th, 2014.  The trip was used to supplement their current studies about space and the solar system. They first watched a show in the dome theater about the possibility of colonizing other planet for human life. The constellations and planets in our current night sky were shown at the end of the show. Third grade then saw a stage show about chemicals and matter where they saw multi-colored flames and the three states of matter. They finished with a picnic lunch on the planetarium lawn before heading on the bus home.

Reminders from Miss Stephens

Reminder to all parents and students about the changes that started this week at TMSA.  Students are no longer required to wear their student I.D. badges; however, they should be kept in their locker for grades 4th-7th grade or with their homeroom teacher for grades K-3rd.  Also, if a student does not have a club or a tutoring session to attend they are to report to the cafeteria for Study Hall.
