New Year 2016

Principal's Corner

“New Year’s most glorious light is sweet hope!” ― Mehmet Murat ildan

Happy New Year to all of our TMSA families!  Contemporary Turkish playwright and novelist Mehmet Murat ildan’s quote above reminds us that there is “sweet hope” with every New Year.  Each of us has our own personal hopes for 2016-- for our children and our families, for ourselves, our workplace, our city, our country and the world.  We enter the New Year with renewed hope for health, happiness, peace, and prosperity.  As principal of TMSA, my hope is that we continue to strive for excellence in 2016.  I already see signs of excellence all around our school.  As I walk the hallways, I hear interesting lectures coming from the teachers. I see children eagerly engaged in their lessons and projects. I see creative bulletin boards and displays of student work. The recent Science Fair was also a display of the students’ hard work and creativity.  The annual Science Fair was again a huge success.  Congratulations to those students with the winning projects this year.  We are not only proud of those chosen as the winners, but we have great pride in all of our students and their families who worked so diligently on their projects.  We realize that many hours go into preparing for the Science Fair, and we are very proud of the effort you made and the knowledge you gained.  Thank you to all of the TMSA staff and parents who made this year’s Science Fair a success.

I wish you all a very Happy New Year.  I look forward to all of the challenges and possibilities this New Year brings.

                                                                                                 Your principal,

                                                                                             Mithat Karabulut

FLL 1

FIRST LEGO League Tournament

TMSA hosted one of the biggest events in Robotics.

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) is an international inquiry-based program for children ages 9-14 that grows their interest in science and technology through an exciting, team-based, competitive event that includes a research assignment, a robot game, and life skills projects. FLL participants get to:

  • Design, build, test, and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology.
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts.
  • Research challenges facing today’s scientists.
  • Learn critical-thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.
  • Participate in tournaments and celebrations.

TMSA Elementary and Middle School Robotics had four teams that participated to two different competitions during this year’s tournament. Two teams went to Flat Rock Middle in Winston-Salem and two teams competed here at TMSA.

Pinata 2016

Piñata Fun!

To finish 2015, 8th and 9th Grade Spanish students celebrated with the Mexican tradition of hitting a star shaped Piñata filled with candy and treats. Typically children sing a song called Dale, Dale while taking turns trying to break open the piñata to get the candy. A big ¡GRACIAS! to our own Ms. Malena who kindly made this beautiful piñata for us herself.

Wall of Tiger Pride Nov. 15

K-3 Wall of Tiger Pride

This year we have a ‘Wall of Tiger Pride’ for the K-3 grades.  This is the same thing that we have been doing over the past years called ‘Student of the Month’.

Each month K-3 teachers will select one student from each class that has shown their Tiger Pride. Winners for each month will have their pictures placed on the Wall of Tiger Pride with a brief description of why they were nominated and what Tiger Pride character trait(s) they exhibited.

Swim Team 2016

TMSA Swim Team

We make a splash!  TMSA Swim team practice started back this semester at Triangle Aquatic Center.  They practice Monday and Thursday nights, weekly.  For its first year, the team has had a successful turnout of students, totaling 12 swimmers.  At all levels, each swimmer brings their stroke to the team.  At this time, 6-9th grades comprise the team, although we hope to offer younger grades a swim team in the future.  All aspects of swimming are covered by Coach Sarai Varner, who is a highly experienced coach with over 15 years aquatic experience.  Each practice begins with dryland exercises/conditioning, followed by warm ups, drills, and stroke instruction.  Although they are not competing this year, they have made great progress in their swimming skills, and will be ready to take on other schools next season!
