Principal's Corner

Happy Spring, Everyone!

I have seen daffodils blooming, and the robins have returned. The weather has been warm and beautiful. Hopefully, we are over with this winter’s ice and snow. Recently, I was in Texas for training on implementing The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) to our school. This program is respected by leading universities across the globe. Through the DP, schools are able to develop students who:

  • have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
  • flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
  • study at least two languages
  • excel in traditional academic subjects
  • explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique theory of knowledge course

You may wonder why TMSA would consider offering the DP.  International research shows that there are many benefits:

  • DP students are better able than their peers to cope with demanding workloads, manage their time, and meet the expectations placed on them.
  • Analysis of DP students in Canada, the UK, and the USA found that the DP’s extended essay improves students’ approach to learning in higher education.
  • 72% of students taking the DP in China attend one of the world’s top 500 universities, according to a 2013 study.

I welcome any feedback concerning this program, especially if you have personal knowledge of its benefits. I will keep you informed of our progress in acquiring this and send you details as to when the program will begin.

I hope you have a chance to get out and enjoy this lovely spring weather.

                                                                                                      -Mr. Kara
