TMSA offers academic teams in order to challenge students beyond the classroom limits. Participation to academic teams is mandatory for advanced level students. 

Math Olympiad

In this great team teaching class students will get ready for the Math Counts, Math League, AMC (American Mathematics Competition) and other math competitions. Math Olympiad requires students to focus on problem solving activities in this team including school lock- ins, cottage camps, and more.

Odyssey of The Mind

The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. For more than twenty five years, this unique program has helped teachers generate excitement in their students. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime. The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests. Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." While conventional thinking has an important place in a well-rounded education, students need to learn how to think creatively and productively.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad has 23 challenging and motivational events that are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. Students will be studying in various events to compete against other schools in regional, state and national tournaments. These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events, which students prepare for during the year.

First Lego League

Students will build and program their own robots by using Lego Kit and will try to be the part of the School Team which will represent our school in the First Lego League Competition. Students will study environmental science, programming, and robotics. They will work in teams and will do research on the problem. We will have regular lock-ins, camps, and weekend studies.

Turkish Olympiad

Students will be prepared for second Regional Turkish Olympiad in Washington, D.C., then international Turkish Olympiad. Categories are; singing, reading poetry, special talent, writing essay and Turkish folk dance. During the year we will do several in school and out of school activities such as cottage camps, picnics, field trips, lock-ins etc. If you want to get trophies and awards while having fun, this Team is the right one for you.

Future City

The mission of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that combine a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future.

This will be accomplished by:

• Fostering engineering skills, such as teamwork, communication and problem solving skills;
• Providing interaction among students, teachers, and engineer mentors;
• Informing the community about the multi-disciplines within the engineering profession;
• Inspiring students to explore futuristic concepts and careers in engineering.
•  Analyze, research, and invent a solution for a given assignment
•  Create a clever presentation about their solution to perform in front of a panel of judges
